Flip Flop Fantasy

Arty ring, Saint Laurent (without flash)

China Glaze's Flip Flop Fantasy is probably one of my all time favourite nail polish colours. What can only be described as an ultra-neon pinky coral, it's the perfect summer time polish. It looks just as good on your toes as it does on the hands, and it stands out magnificently against tanned skin. The photos cannot begin to translate how bright this colour actually is. The last picture sans flash gives a pretty good idea, but this is a colour you need to see in the flesh.

Part of the Neon Poolside 2010 collection, this polish is impossible to track down in the shops, but you can always rely on eBay to help you out in your time of need.

As much as I love the colour, the formula is a tad disappointing. It can be streaky and patchy, and requires 3 thin coats (and lots of patience) to achieve a good level of opacity. It can also get a bit gloopy inbetween nails, but a quick shake of the bottle is enough to fix this problem. For someone who doesn't really suffer from chipped polish syndrome, boy does this colour chip. Even with a no chip topcoat, you'll be lucky if you make it to 3 days.

Flip Flop Fantasy might be a bit bright for some - I've heard plenty of comments about requiring sunglasses (mainly from my dad), which may be true, but I absolutely love it. The colour payoff is enough for me to let the application troubles slide; I've never seen a neon polish so fluorescent once applied to the nail, and this is without a white undercoat. If you like your brights, this is definitely one to try out. And if you don't, this would be the perfect place to start. Go neon or go home.
